PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF
- Books in large, heavy supermarket produce boxes except when you leave the books and take with you the heavy produce boxes when you leave. If they are left we have to pay to recycle these and they cost us time and effort to dispose.
- Large quantities of books of varying quality from a move or a home cleaning of a friend or relative.
- Books that someone would not be very willing to buy.
- Books that have been stored in a garage, water stained, have pages written on, the binding is broken or cracked, the dog has chewed on the corner, etc.
WHEN AND WHERE YOU CAN LEAVE DONATIONS
You can bring your book donations to the Library as follows:
- For a small volume donation (10-20 books), you can drop them off in the FOL donation cart upstairs any day of the week during library hours.
- Because we are currently swamped with donations, the most we can accept in any single donation is 5 boxes.
- For a donation of more than one large box of books, please bring them downstairs to our book room Mon-Wed-Fri between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. when we have volunteers working.
- FOL fortunately receives many books in excellent, almost new condition. Please remember that if we can't sell the books you are leaving, we have to pay to have them recycled or disposed of.
- Please don't ask the library staff to help you as they are busy with their duties.
BOOKS, AUDIOBOOKS, CDs, DVDs, etc.
In addition to donations of saleable books, we also are very happy to receive a check or credit card cash donation. Checks should be mailed to: Friends of the Library, 1270 Madison Ave N, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. See column to the right for secure credit card donations. We are an all-volunteer group and all of the donations received are used in support of the Bainbridge Public Library.
We accept:
- Books and audiobooks in very good condition
- Magazines less than 1 year old
- CDs
- DVDs
- Maps
- Puzzles and games that are complete.
We cannot accept:
- Cassette tapes
- VHS tapes
- Books that are damaged, i.e. broken spines, loose or torn pages, pages that have been written in or highlighted or just heavily worn.
- Books that are moldy, dirty, damp, water damaged or infested with insects.
If you would not want it in your house because of condition or the age of the format, we cannot sell it. We know it is difficult to throw a item away, but it can be done.
Receipts:
You can get a receipt for your donation at the Children's Desk. Donations to the Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. The Bainbridge Island Friends of the Library is a non-profit. tax-exempt organization approved by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Friends of the Library are good stewards of your donations and squeeze all the value possible from your donation. Here is the life of your donation:
It is sorted and scanned. The most valuable are sold online. If its value is between $3 and $10, it goes through three library book sales before it goes to a subject section. If it is below that, it goes directly to its subject section. All items that cannot be sold at the Friends' book sales are sent to a business that distributes or recycles them.
AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THE BAINBRIDGE ISLAND FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
